Outward Bound (OB) is an international network of outdoor education organisations that was founded in the United Kingdom by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn in 1941. Today there are organisations, called schools, in over 35 countries which are attended by more than 150,000 people each year.
Outward Bound era l’abbreviazione del motto della scuola: “Esci al largo, fuori dalle acque sicure ma stagnanti del porto” ma divenne presto il nome con cui la scuola ed i suoi corsi vennero conosciuti. I corsi inizialmente proposti duravano quattro settimane residenziali e coinvolsero un centinaio di giovani aristocratici fra i 15 ed i 19 anni.
