Social Distortion is an American punk rock band formed in 1978 in Fullerton, California. [1] The band currently consists of Mike Ness (lead vocals, lead guitar), Jonny Wickersham (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brent Harding (bass, backing vocals), David Hidalgo Jr. (drums), and David Kalish (keyboards).
John Maurer (born July 14, 1961) is an American musician who was a longtime bass guitarist for Social Distortion from 1984 to 2004. Career. He joined Social Distortion in early 1984 following the departure of Brent Liles. He played on every album from Prison Bound to Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll.

Just a month before the Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll album was released, Maurer left Social Distortion in August 2004 to stay home and devote time to his wife and two children.
