Jamila bint Thabit. Jamīla bint Thābit ( Arabic: جميلة بنت ثابت ), originally named ʿĀṣiya ( Arabic: عاصية ), was a wife of Umar and a female companion of Muhammad . Biography. She was the daughter of Thabit ibn Abi al-Aflah and Al-Shamus bint Abi Amir, who were both from the 'Amr ibn Awf clan of the Aws tribe in Medina.

Her name used to be 'Assiyah (means "intractable") and the Prophet changed it to Jamilah (means "beautiful"). After she embraced Islam, she went to 'Umar and said, "I hate my name, give me a name."

Asim ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab (Arabic: عَاصِم بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنُ الْخَطَّاب, romanized: ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb; c. 628 –c. 689) was the son of Jamila bint Thabit and Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second Rashidun caliph. Asim was also a famous hadith scholar.
Hz Umar Marries Jamila bint Thabit. Hazrat Umaru’l-Faruq married Jamila, the daughter of Thabit b. Aqlah, one of the Muslims of Madinah. Jamila, whose previous name was Asiya, was one of the first ten women that paid allegiance to the Prophet when he came to Madinah. When Hazrat Umar married her, he did not like his name and changed it as Jamila.
