Longtime friends and collaborators Richard Avedon and Truman Capote first worked together in 1959, when Capote wrote the text for Avedon’s book of portrait photographs, Observations.
8 apr 2011 · Viewing Observations from 2011, it’s hard to see how provocative it must have been to try to synthesize pop culture and high culture in a formal publication like a book, and in the way that Avedon and Alexey Brodovitch attempted here.
This early book on Richard Avedon presents the photographer’s striking portraits from the 1940s and ’50s of luminaries as well as a profile of Avedon by Truman Capote and literary sketches of the portrait subjects by the novelist.
