David Karr The Guardian Newspaper, Tuesday 21 August 2007 . Guitarist Jerome "Jah Jerry" Haynes, who has died aged 80 following a brief illness, was a founding member of the Skatalites, the most important set of session musicians in Jamaica during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The Jah Jerry Foundation was named after a founding member of Jamaica’s Skatalites band, Jerome ‘Jah Jerry’ Haynes. James Haynes, Jah Jerry’s son, who is the chief executive officer of the foundation, said his late father devoted his time teaching aspiring young musicians the rudiments of the guitar and the fundamentals of reading and writing music.
