The celebrated violinist Yehudi Menuhin founded his school in Surrey in 1963 to provide a place for musically gifted children from around the world to develop their talents to the highest level within a nurturing and stimulating academic environment, regardless of their economic background.
The Yehudi Menuhin School is a specialist music school in Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey, England, founded in 1963 by violinist and conductor Yehudi Menuhin. The current director of music is the British classical pianist Ashley Wass.
1–10 July, the Yehudi Menuhin School presents the Menuhin 100 Festival. Warner Classics publish a boxed set, ‘The Menuhin Century’, curated by Bruno Monsaingeon. Humphrey Burton’s biography is republished in paperback by Faber, with an updated Preface.

The school and the competition; the festival and Live Music Now; the foundation and the academy – they are his evident legacy. A strong humanitarian commitment took him into the concentration camps, soon after the end of Second World War.
Yehudi Menuhin. His brilliance as a performer and conductor was matched by his concern for humanity and, most impressively, his work as an educator. Yehudi Menuhin was born on 22 April 1916 in New York of Russian Jewish parents but later became a British subject.
