Booker T. & the M.G.'s were an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was influential in shaping the sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums).
Profile: American instrumental rhythm & blues and soul combo, formed 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. Best remembered as the in-house backing band of the Stax record label. The band’s name is a combination of organist Booker T. Jones 's first names and the acronym for “Memphis Group”, MG.

Booker T. and the MG’s, American band that was among the finest instrumental ensembles in soul music in the 1960s.
