Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell continues the melding of country and rockabilly influences with punk rock that began with Social Distortion's 1988 album Prison Bound. Clear influences include Hank Williams (on "This Time Darlin'") and Johnny Cash (on "99 to Life").
Soda Stereo was an Argentine rock band formed in Buenos Aires in 1982. The band's membership consisted of singer-guitarist Gustavo Cerati, bassist Zeta Bosio and drummer Charly Alberti. During their career, the band released seven studio albums before disbanding in 1997.

Prison Bound è il secondo album dei Social Distortion, punk band californiana, pubblicato nel 1988 a ben cinque anni di distanza dal precedente; rispetto ad esso contiene molte più influenze blues e country, come si può notare anche dalla cover Backstreet Girl dei Rolling Stones, gettando le basi del cosiddetto cowpunk .
