The school was founded in Chicago in 1869 by Fr. Arnold Damen, S.J., a Dutch missionary to the United States. Saint Ignatius College Prep is Chicago’s flagship Jesuit high school and one of the pre-eminent Catholic college preparatory schools in the United States.

Transfer applications for the 2024-2025 academic year will open April 1, 2024 and are due by June 1, 2024, with admissions decisions communicated within the month of June. Saint Ignatius does not consider midyear transfers.
