Elisabeth Luther (10 December [ O.S. 1 December] 1527 [1] – 3 August [ O.S. 25 July] 1528 [1]) was the first daughter and second child born to German priest and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther and his wife, Katharina von Bora. She did not survive infancy.

Despite his faith, when two daughters, Elisabeth and Magdalena, died, Luther struggled to surmount his grief. When the seven-month-old baby Elisabeth departed this life in 1528, Luther writes that the event has rendered him ‘womanish,’ reflecting his acceptance of the stereotype of women as easily giving vent to their emotions.
Magdalena Luther (4 May 1529 – 20 September 1542) was the third child and second daughter of German priest and iconic figure of the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther and his wife, Katharina von Bora. She died at the age of thirteen.
