Eleanor Dare (née White; c. 1568 – disappeared 27 August 1587) of Westminster, London, England, was a member of the Roanoke Colony and the daughter of John White, the colony's governor.

Eleanor Dare gave birth to a baby girl on August 18 and named her Virginia. Virginia Dare became the first English child born in the New World. The colonists begged Governor White to return to England for supplies.
Virginia's death and the fate of the other colonists were purportedly described in a series of inscribed stones written by Eleanor Dare and others. Most of these were later revealed to be forgeries, with the authenticity of one remaining in dispute.
A supposed piece of evidence for this claim is the existence of carvings in stones that were purportedly made by Eleanor Dare, the daughter of John White. These stones, often called the Dare Stones, contain written stories that tell the fates of the colonists and personal anecdotes from Dare to her father.
