St. Charles College was a private Jesuit college in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. Founded in 1837 by Jesuits from France and Kentucky, the school was the first Jesuit college established in the American South.

At the invitation of New Orleans Bishop Leo-Raymond De Neckere, French Jesuits accepted the offer to establish a Jesuit presence and a college in Louisiana. Their leader, Father Nicholas Point, subsequently left his post at St. Mary’s College in Kentucky in 1837 and came to Louisiana.
The buildings and grounds of St. Charles College provide a tranquil setting for prayer and meditation, reading and relaxation. The farmland boasts live oak, pine and pecan trees, azalea and other flowering bushes in the heart of Cajun country.
Founded in 1837, St. Charles College is the site of the first Jesuit college in the South. Today, it functions as a Jesuit seminary and spirituality center. The massive brick structure was built in 1909 to replace the original, which was destroyed by fire.
