Barrett was replaced on bass by Alfie Agius for the Shuttered Room tour. Agius' stay in the band was short-lived, though, as he left during the 1983 recording of their next album Reach the Beach , after having recorded four tracks.

3 ago 2020 · The bassist in both of those bands was a young guy, Alfie Agius. From what I have read he largely played a fretless bass. Not much is mentioned on here about his bass playing, but I'd like to think he played a fretless Fender Precision bass or a fretless Ibanez bass, sort of like the one that Sting played.
Adam Woods – percussion; drums. Alfie Agius – bass on "One Thing Leads to Another", "Saved by Zero" and "Liner". Dan K. Brown – bass on "The Sign of Fire". Agius left the Fixx partway through the recording sessions, and is not listed as an official group member in the album credits.
22 mar 2000 · Mar 26, 2012. The man behind the bassline for "One Thing Leads to Another" and "Saved By Zero", was actually Alfie Agius. He left the band before the album was released. The other players mentioned were def good but not on the same level as Agius.

In order to keep the band on the road as a touring concern, two London musicians were hired – keyboard player Jeff Hammer and bass player Alfie Agius (the latter freeing Cope to concentrate on vocals and rhythm guitar). Despite the internal turmoil, by 1981 The Teardrop Explodes were at the height of their popularity.
