NVA ( German: [ɛn faʊ̯ ˈʔaː] ⓘ) is a German comedy film released in 2005 that involves two friends who serve in the National People's Army of the former DDR. It was directed by Leander Haußmann, who – together with Thomas Brussig – also wrote the screenplay.

Set in the DDR sometime in the eighties, a story following the misadventures of a group of new draftee recruits in the NVA as they try to cope with the loss of sex, alcohol and drugs - in short, everything they hold dear - during their 18-month service.
Henrik Heidler has to fulfill his military service in the GDR in the 1980s. He has only one goal: to get through the next year and a half of service unscathed. In the army he meets Krüger, a young man with an authority problem, who has no intention of being bossed around.
