Years active. 1962–2012. Bernard Noël "Banjo Barney" McKenna (16 December 1939 – 5 April 2012 [1]) was an Irish musician and a founding member of The Dubliners. He played the tenor banjo, violin, mandolin, and melodeon. He was most renowned as a banjo player.
Bernard Noel McKenna (Donnycarney, 16 dicembre 1939 – Dublino, 5 aprile 2012) è stato un musicista irlandese, suonatore di banjo tenore, mandolino e organetto, cofondatore del gruppo musicale The Dubliners, conosciuto soprattutto come banjista e "padre fondatore" della tradizione del banjo tenore irlandese.
Barney McKenna è stato “il più importante suonatore di banjo d’Irlanda”, almeno in riferimento alla musica tradizionale irlandese. Le sue performance sono state fonte di ispirazione per un’intera generazione. Gli altri tre membri fondatori, Ronnie Drew, Ciaran Bourke e Luke Kelly sono scomparsi rispettivamente nel 2008, 1988 e 1984.
