The Gaffer. Top-rated. Fri, Mar 5, 1982. S2.E2. Take Your Partner. Fred's son Spencer is in Australia, and Doris wants to go and see him. Fred puts the company in the red to pay for the trip. Williams at the bank won't extend the overdraught and the bill collectors are at the door. Charlie offers to invest in the company with a small inheritance.
Although it is undeniably a sitcom, 'The Gaffer' has a kernel of truth which is worth remembering while you laugh. Fred Moffat runs his own small engineering company somewhere in West Yorkshire. He lives in an ordinary terraced house, and drives a clapped-out car full of unpaid parking tickets.
