The Actor's Workshop was a theatre company founded in San Francisco in 1952. It was the first professional theatre on the west coast to premiere many of the modern American classics such as Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and The Crucible, and the world dramas of Samuel Beckett, Bertolt Brecht, Jean Genet and Harold Pinter.
The Actors’ Workshop is a unique, independent and nationally recognised centre for actor education. Our Foundation Course has an unrivalled record for getting students into BA/MA courses at UK drama schools: 42 places on BA/MA courses at accredited UK drama schools in 2023.
Our graduates in the arts go on to become A-list actor’s, feature film directors, platnum selling musicians, and producers. Our graduates outside of the arts find their experience at AWI positively impacts their communication skills and their confidence in every aspect of their lives.

The Actors Workshop provides an opportunity for adults aged 18 and over, to explore and develop the necessary skills for careers in film, television and radio.

YOUNG ACTORS PROGRAM. Designed for the professional child, but suitable as an enriching activity for any young person. Newcomers are welcome anytime. It's easy for a young actor to jump in because we emphasize fundamentals and do a lot of recap and review. Drop-ins available but must be confirmed in advance. Sunday Afternoon Acting Lessons.
The Actors Workshop is one of southern California's oldest film acting programs and is generally associated with the Sanford Meisner and Charles Conrad techniques. The company was established by its parent company, Shannon & Company.
