31 dic 2022 · Ellington had experimented with having both Billy Taylor and Hayes Alvis playing bass together a few years earlier. When bassist Jimmy Blanton (1918-42) was discovered, because Taylor was such a skilled and loyal bassist, Duke at first utilized both of the musicians.
