John Erskine, 5th Lord Erskine (7 July 1487 – 11 November 1555) was a Scottish nobleman. He was the son of Robert Erskine, 4th Lord Erskine (died 1513) and Isabel Campbell, a daughter of George Campbell of Loudon. His family was claimant to the earldom of Mar; this was recognized in 1565 for his son, John.

John Erskine (born 1509, Dun, near Montrose, Scot.—died March 12 or June 17, 1591) was a Scottish lord of Dun and Calvinist Reformer. Erskine came of a wealthy and powerful family. His grandfather, father, and two other near relatives were killed at the Battle of Flodden in 1513.

History. John Erskine was born in 1558, though the precise date is unknown. Together with King James VI of Scotland he was educated by George Buchanan. He succeeded to the earldom of Mar on the death of his father in 1572.
