Mamphela Aletta Ramphele (/ ˈ m ʌ m p iː l ə ˈ r ʌ m p iː l i /; born 28 December 1947) is a South African politician, anti-apartheid activist, medical doctor and businesswoman. She was a partner of anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko, with whom she had two children.

Mamphela Ramphele is a South African activist, physician, academic, businesswoman, and political leader known for her activism efforts for the rights of black South Africans and her fight against South Africa’s discriminatory policies of apartheid. She founded a political party, Agang SA, in 2013.
Activist, medical doctor, academic, businessperson and global thought leader, Dr Mamphela Ramphele is co-founder of ReimagineSA and the Chair of the Tutu IP Trust. She was Co-president of The Club of Rome between 2018 and 2023.
Mamphela Aletta Ramphele has also been appointed director at think-tank Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA) and as a board member of Anglo-American and Transnet. In 2004, she was voted 55 th of the Top 100 Great South Africans.

Following the Soweto uprising in 1976, she was detained without trial, released after five months and soon afterwards served with an apartheid banning order.
