Overview. Drummond's wedding with Phyllis is interrupted when the inspector guarding their gifts is killed. He tries to trace the killers and uncovers the mystery of diamond counterfeiters.
Directed by James P. Hogan • 1938 • United States. As Drummond and his fiancee are about to tie the knot, the theft of one of their wedding gifts--a synthetic diamond, no less--reveals the existence of a gang of international gem speculators who are willing to kill to control their market.
John Barrymore is the inspector who wants to get rid of Sgt. Hugh Drummond (John Howard). Drummond is in Geneva to get married, but a wedding gift of a synthetic diamond is stolen and someone is killed.
An explosion that wrecks Goodman's house, and apparently kills him, makes Drummond more positive that the diamond king has again resorted to murder to protect his business. He follows Professor Botulian, a life-long rival of Goodman's, whom he believes to be involved in the affair.
