Anne Shelton OBE (born Patricia Jacqueline Sibley, 10 November 1923 – 31 July 1994) was a popular English vocalist, who is remembered for providing inspirational songs for soldiers both on radio broadcasts, and in person, at British military bases during the Second World War.
Anne Shelton was one of the greatest British singing stars of the 40s and 50s. Her songs including 'Lili Marlene' and 'Lay Down Your Arms' kept troops and civilians in high spirits throughout the Second World War and into the 1990s.

Anne Shelton Biography. by Greg Prato. Although singer Anne Shelton issued several recordings throughout her career, she is best-known for generously touring Army, Navy, and Air Force bases. Born in Dulwich, London, England, on November 10, 1923, Shelton began singing at the age of 13, and by 15 had her own recording contract as a solo artist.
Anne Shelton. Born Patricia Jacqueline Sibley on 10 November 1923, Anne Shelton, came to be known as the “Forces’ Favourite” on wartime radio. A singer with a wholesome girl-next-door appeal, she provided an instant hit with her weekly radio programme for the BBC during World War II.
