The institution was established in 1932 as the "J.V. Stalin Academy of the WPRA Mechanization and Motorization Program". It was renamed after Marshal Rodion Malinovsky in 1967. Its mission was to train Soviet and Warsaw Pact commanders, staff officers, and engineers for armored and mechanized units.
The predecessors of the Academy were the Frunze Military Academy and the Malinovsky Military Armored Forces Academy and the Shaposhnikov Vystrel Higher Officer Courses. The CAA was formed in 1998 on the base of both the Frunze Military Academy and the Armored Forces Academy.
In order to strengthen the Red Army field command, he dispatched some of the top officers from the military academies to the field units. Malinovsky was promoted to Major General , and took command over the freshly raised 48th Rifle Corps , 9th Army in the Odessa Military District .

21 lug 2021 · Two months after the incident his superiors transferred Losik from the Far Eastern Military District to Moscow to head the Malinovsky Military Armored Forces Academy. Promoted to marshal of armored troops in 1975, he retired from the Soviet army in 1992 and died at the venerable age of 96 in 2012.
