Lona Cohen (Russian: Леонтина Владиславовна Коэн, Leontina Vladislavovna Koen; January 11, 1913 – December 23, 1992), born Leontine Theresa Petka, also known as Helen Kroger, was an American who spied for the Soviet Union. She is known for her role in smuggling atomic bomb diagrams out of Los Alamos.

27 set 2016 · Lona Cohen – The Russian Spy Who Kept Her Cool Even in the Desert. 11 comments. The year was 1945 and 32-year-old Lona Cohen from Adams, Mass., was in the New Mexico desert. Americans had perfected the nuclear bomb and used it to end World War II. In the Los Alamos desert the security around the nuclear labs was intense.
In 1941, Cohen married Lona, a Communist Party activist. She later became a spy and courier for Manhattan Project physicist Theodore Hall . They were part of a ring of atomic spies who were later revealed to have been far more damaging to US interests than the Rosenberg ring.
According to Cohen, by the fall of 1994 there were very few people left in Soviet intelligence ("two or maybe three") who knew the real name of the second spy scientist. For her part, shortly before her death in 1992, Lona Cohen had a telephone interview with historian Walter Schneir.

Lona Cohen. Lona, 29, was an atomic spy. She'd taken over from her husband Morris when he was drafted to fight in WWII and she enjoyed the role-playing. Lona considered herself a talented amateur actress, albeit one who often forgot her lines.
