Les Baxter's Balladeers were a 1960s folk group formed by band leader Les Baxter. They released an album and a few singles during the early 1960s. Some of the musicians to pass through the group were David Crosby and his brother Ethan Chip Crosby, Bob Ingram and Phil Campos.
They had a minor hit in 1967 with their song "The River Is Wide" which implemented the Wall of Sound technique originally developed by Phil Spector. He worked in radio as musical director of The Halls of Ivy and the Bob Hope and Abbott and Costello shows. Baxter worked in films in the 1960s and 1970s.

He made a few albums for Reprise — Soul Of The Drums (which featured the great Olatunji on percussion), The Primitive And The Passionate (an exotic record), and Les Baxter’s Balladeers (an attempt to cash in on the folk boom which featured a pre-Byrds David Crosby).
Les Baxter is the originator of the Exotica sound. His innovative recordings, arrangements, and compositions have influenced a wide range of artists from Jefferson Airplane to Quentin Tarantino.
