Arts University Plymouth is the UKs newest specialist Arts University. Our vision is for a new kind of arts university for the 21st century, preparing graduates who are uniquely placed to provide creative solutions to the complex global challenges of our times.
Founded as the Plymouth Drawing School in 1856, Arts University Plymouth is one of the last specialist art schools in the United Kingdom. The College has delivered higher education (HE) provision for over 20 years, initially as part of an indirect funding partnership with the University of Plymouth to develop foundation degrees.
Voted University of the Year for South West England (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2024), Arts University Plymouth was founded in 1856 and recently gained its university title. A 21st-century art school, it prepares graduates to bring creative solutions to complex issues such as the acceleration of new technology and the climate emergency.

Arts University Plymouth is an independent university run by artists and designers for creative students. The university has occupied several locations in Plymouth city centre since 1856, now settling in their current undergraduate campus location, Tavistock Place.
