If I had to name a young composer who summed up the post modernist musical ethic then it would be Joby Talbot. Versatile, emotionally transparent, thought provoking and above all enjoyable and accessible without personal or artistic compromise.
Talbot was commissioned, also in 1999, by the British Film Institute to provide a new score for Alfred Hitchcock's 1927 silent film The Lodger, and again in 2002 the BFI had Talbot write a piano trio to accompany Evgenii Bauer's The Dying Swan (1917).

Talbot has considerable experience writing for the screen, including classic BBC comedy series The League of Gentlemen and feature films The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Garth Jennings, 2005) and Closed Circuit (John Crowley, 2013); and has been twice commissioned by the British Film Institute, to re-score silent films The Lodger (1999) and The Dying Swan (2002).
Not the first silent film Talbot has scored for (Hitcock's early classic 'The Lodger' was performed in Edinburgh and London in 1999; the following year in Paris), 'The Dying Swan' is intriguing because its heroine is a mute. She turns to ballet dancing after loosing out in love.
