Tragically, Emsalinur Kadın died homeless in 1950. Since she was Başikbal from 1895 until 1901 and the inscription reads “Devletlü İsmetlü Baş-İkbâl”, this suitcase must have been presented to her during this period.
Emsalinur Kadınefendi, Abhazya'da doğdu. Babası, Abhazyalı Ömer Bey ve annesi Selime Hanım'dır. Kendisinden sekiz yaş küçük Tesrid Hanım adında bir kız kardeşi vardı. Kızkardeşi Tesrid Hanım, 1894 yılında Abdülmecid'in torunu ve Burhaneddin Efendi'nin oğlu olan İbrahim Tevfik Efendi ile evlendi.
Kadın ( Ottoman Turkish: قادين) was the title given to the consorts of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire. The title officially first came in use during the reign of Sultan Suleiman II. The Sultan could have up to four and some times five women with the imperial rank of Kadın and unlimited number of women with the rank of Ikbal.
