The boogie-woogie fad among white audiences was originally triggered by black pianist Cleo Brown’s 1935 record of Pinetops Boogie Woogie and later by Tommy Dorsey's 1938 recording of the same piece. Now the craze had really caught on, and Joe Turner and the Boogie Woogie Trio became the toast of Café Society.
