Sempre nel 2003 Grohl tornerà alla batteria per suonare nell'album dei Killing Joke dal titolo Killing Joke 2003. Nel 2001 e 2006 invece collabora agli album dei Tenacious D , e appare anche nel video del primo singolo del primo album omonimo, Tribute , nel quale impersona il diavolo .
Il 28 luglio 2003 viene pubblicato un nuovo album eponimo, con Dave Grohl alla batteria, segnando il ritorno dei Killing Joke.
