Frederick III, Count of Veldenz (died 1444) was the last from the Hohengeroldseck family to rule the county - that male line died out with him, and the county passed to his son-in-law Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken, widower of Frederick's daughter, Anna of Veldenz.

In 1694, the Veldenz branch became extinct in the male line, and the Count of Veldenz passed to the Electors-Palatine of the Rhine [18: tome III; p.175].
In 1444 the county came under the rule of Stephen, Count Palatine of Simmern-Zweibrücken by his marriage to Anna of Veldenz, the only heiress of Count Frederick III of Veldenz. As of 1532, the entire County Palantine of Zweibrücken passed to the child Wolfgang.
When the senior branch of the family died out in 1559, the electorate passed to Frederick III of Simmern, son of John II and a staunch Calvinist. The Palatinate became one of the major centers of Calvinism in Europe, supporting Calvinist rebellions in both the Netherlands and France .
Friedrich III. von Veldenz, Graf von Veldenz, was born circa 1372 to Heinrich III. von Veldenz (c1333-1389) and Loretta von Sponheim-Starkenburg (c1347-c1364) and died October 1444 of unspecified causes.
