Vance Gilbert (born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States) is an American folk singer-songwriter. He started as a jazz singer, switched to folk music, became a regular on the open mike circuit in Boston and toured with Shawn Colvin. He has recorded sixteen albums, including Side of the Road, three of them on Philo/Rounder Records .

27 ott 2006 · The second to last cut, "Alone Down Here" one of the two tracks by Paul and Gilbert, challenges the listener to examine whether we are to live our lives cut off from the rest of the world, or rather, in an embrace of the world and all its challenges and blessings.

On Lucinda Williams’ Side of the Road, Gilbert leads and Paul harmonizes. The only true collaborative duet on the album is Citizen of the World , an anti-nationalistic anthem full of undergraduate dorm room platitudes over an otherwise decent tune.
