Godsmack is an American rock band from Lawrence, Massachusetts, formed in 1995. The band is composed of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Sully Erna, bassist Robbie Merrill, lead guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin.
The band's second drummer, Joe D'Arco, only joined after the album was recorded, though he later recorded the bonus track "Whatever" with the band in February 1998. Joe D’Arco, also known as “Joe Mama,” served as the drummer for Godsmack from 1997 to 1998. His tenure with the band was during a pivotal time when Godsmack was solidifying its sound and preparing for the release of its debut album.
Along with him would be Tony Rombolo (guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass) and Tommy Stuart (drums; who stepped in to replace original member Joe D'Arco who would later return). The act would start out under the name The Scam, but quickly changed its name to Godsmack after recording one demo.
