Leonard Donald Stanley "Chip" Hawkes (born 2 November 1945) is an English musician. He is best known for being a member of the Tremeloes and for being the father of Chesney Hawkes.

Poole and Howard were both replaced by bassist-singer Len "Chip" Hawkes. Their first single as a four-piece, released on Decca, was a cover of Paul Simon's song "Blessed", which failed to chart.
Len Hawkes. Composer: May Morning. Chip Hawkes joined 'The Tremeloes' in 1965 as singer/bassist. In 1974 he was signed by RCA & pursued a solo career. In 1979 he reformed The Tremeloes & toured with them until 1988. In the early 90's Chip formed his own group 'The Chip Hawkes Band'. They toured all over Europe in the 90's.

In late 1965, Chip Hawkes joined “Brian Poole & The Tremeloes.” This lineup lasted for about a year before Brian Poole pursued a solo career, leading to the band’s split. However, The Tremeloes endured, featuring Len “Chip” Hawkes, Dave Munden, Alan Blackely, and Rick Westwood.
28 set 2021 · Founded in Dagenham, near London, in 1958, the band is still alive and kicking to this very day; the current formation includes original member Rick Westwood who acts as a guitarist and vocalist, alongside bassist and singer Len ‘Chip’ Hawkes who joined in 1966.
Rick Westwood replaced Graham Scott in 1962, from then they started releasing records. Brian Poole left the band in 1966. The Tremeloes are still touring to this day featuring original members Len “Chip” Hawkes and Mick Clarke. Dave Munden died on 15 October 2020.
