Jacob Martin Portrait is an American multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and record producer. He is the bassist of the New Zealand psychedelic rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and a current member of the Portland-based alternative rock band Blouse.
Jacob Portrait's primary entry point to the modern musical landscape has been as the bassist & secondary writer / producer in Unknown Mortal Orchestra. However, his individual credits are amassing rapidly, having produced the likes of Whitney, (Sandy) Alex G, Porches, and Neon Indian.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra (also known as UMO) is a psychedelic rock band based in Portland, Oregon and primarily composed of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Ruban Nielson and bassist Jacob Portrait. Nielson started the band in 2009, initially as a solo project.

God Save the Animals was recorded at Headroom Studios, Spice House, and Alex's home in Philadelphia, as well as SugarHouse in New York City, Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, New York, Gradwell House Recording in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, and Watersong Music in Bowdoinham, Maine. The album was co-produced by Alex G and Jacob Portrait.
