Biografia. Ha iniziato la carriera musicale come corista di Pat Benatar. Si unì poi ai Golden Palominos, pubblicò il primo album da solista Surprise nel 1989 dove contribuirono importanti musicisti dell'alternative rock tra cui: Michael Stipe, Daniel Lanois, Richard Thompson, John Doe, Peter Blegvad. Lanciata dal tour de force di Visions Of Excess dei Golden Palominos , dove mise in ombra colleghi ben piu' prestigiosi, Syd Straw esordi' con Surprise (Virgin, 1989), forte di uno stuolo di collaboratori illustri, ma con risultati mediocri, piu' da interprete country che da intellettuale della "no wave".
