Ferrone played on Petty's 1994 solo album Wildflowers and contributed to two tracks on 1996's Songs and Music From She's the One. By 1999's Echo album he was a fully credited member of the Heartbreakers along with future Fleetwood Mac member Mike Campbell. He would remain with the band until Petty's death in 2017.
