Waves are additive so when the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon are in the same direction, the high tides add and the low tides add. Highs are higher and lows are lower than at other times through the month. These more extreme tides, with a greater tidal range, are called spring tides.
Tidal waves, in their most basic form, are waves that follow a tide and are moved by the wind. However, when talking about the more dangerous and more significant tidal waves, we find that they are usually formed as the result of an earthquake or extremely high speed winds.
