Nato nel 1963 Ashley Hicks ha studiato presso l'Architectural Association di Londra. Ha lavorato, per un breve periodo, per suo padre, l'interior designer David Hicks, prima di iniziare la sua attività. Nel 1997 ha disegnato la sua prima collezione di mobili, Jantar Mantar, ispirandosi all’antica sedia greca Klismos.
