28 lug 2020 · James Verinis attended the University of Connecticut on a basketball scholarship, enlisting upon graduation in Juy 1941. A pilot with the 91st BG he was reputed to be the first to complete a tour of 25 missions - on 'Connecticut Yankee' - and was accordingly sent on the War Bonds tour of the USA with 'Memphis Belle'.

James A. Verinis. Engagements: • World War II (1941 - 1945) Biography: James A. Verinis. Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army Air Forces. James A. Verinis was born on 23 October 1916 in Connecticut. With the outbreak of World War II, he was assigned as co-pilot of the B-17, "Memphis Belle."
Morgan's original co-pilot was Capt. James A. Verinis, who himself piloted the Memphis Belle for one mission. Verinis was promoted to aircraft commander of another B-17 for his final 16 missions and finished his tour on 13 May. He rejoined Morgan's crew as co-pilot for the flight back to the United States.
