Scott Eugene Fischer (December 24, 1955 – May 11, 1996) was an American mountaineer and mountain guide. He was renowned for ascending the world's highest mountains without supplemental oxygen. Fischer and Wally Berg were the first Americans to summit Lhotse (27,940 feet / 8516 m), the world's fourth highest peak. [1]
La tragedia del Monte Everest del 1996 fu un incidente occorso tra il 10 e l'11 maggio 1996 che portò alla morte di 8 scalatori colti da una tempesta durante il tentativo di ascesa alla vetta del Monte Everest.
Numerous climbers were at a high altitude on Everest during the storm including the Adventure Consultants team, led by Rob Hall, and the Mountain Madness team, led by Scott Fischer. While climbers died on both the North Face and South Col approaches, the events on the latter were more widely reported.
