Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen (7 June 1890 – 3 June 1965) was a Norwegian aviation pioneer, military officer, polar explorer and businessman. Among his achievements, he is generally regarded a founder of the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen (Oslo, 7 giugno 1890 – Copenaghen, 3 giugno 1965) è stato un esploratore e aviatore norvegese. Operò esclusivamente nelle regioni artiche ed antartiche, dapprima con Roald Engelbert Amundsen nel 1925 e nel 1926, quale comandante in seconda del dirigibile Norge , e poi da solo nel 1929-1930, in Antartide.
Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen knew several languages and had friends in many countries even before he became famous as Roald Amundsen’s pilot. His broad contact network was a big advantage for Norway during World War II and not least in the development of Norwegian civil aviation, DNL and SAS.
Riiser-Larsen var en pioner innen norsk luftfart. Han førte flybåten N25 for Roald Amundsen i 1925 og var med på Norge-ferden i 1926. Hjalmar Riiser-Larsen var sønn av en skipsfører og tilbrakte sine første leveår til sjøs. Han var eldst av tre brødre. Etter middelskoleeksamen i 1906 dro han til sjøs på seil- og dampskip.
