Richard Baer was a Nazi official with the rank of SS -Sturmbannführer and commander of the Auschwitz I concentration camp from May 1944 to February 1945. Baer was born in Bavaria in 1911; originally a confectioner, he became a guard in Dachau concentration camp after becoming unemployed in 1930.
Richard Baer was a notorious SS officer who ran the Auschwitz concentration camp before transferring to Mittelbau-Dora in 1945. He and his subordinates carried out mass executions and brutal treatment of the inmates at both camps.
