Thomas Henry Bingham, Baron Bingham of Cornhill, KG, PC, FBA (13 October 1933 – 11 September 2010) was a British judge who was successively Master of the Rolls, Lord Chief Justice and Senior Law Lord. On his death in 2010, he was described as the greatest judge of his generation.

Thomas Henry Bingham was the most prominent judicial figure in England & Wales in the last years of the 20th Century and the opening decade of the 21st. He was the first Judge to hold (in succession) the three major offices of Master of the Rolls, Lord Chief Justice, and Senior Law Lord.
What follows is a biographical sketch of one of the greatest of English judges. It offers some explanation of why Thomas Henry Bingham rose to such heights. It also casts light on modern English social history, or at least that part lived out by a boy born in the 1930s of professional middle class parents. It is, however, a sketch.
