Tavis Smiley (/ ˈ t æ v ɪ s /; born September 13, 1964) is an American talk show host and author. Smiley was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and grew up in Bunker Hill, Indiana. After attending Indiana University, he worked during the late 1980s as an aide to Tom Bradley, the mayor of Los Angeles.
One of TIME magazine’s “100 Most Influential People In The World,” Tavis Smiley has interviewed a veritable Who’s Who of influencers, has penned multiple New York Times bestselling books, received nearly 20 honorary doctorate degrees, and has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
