Mora, 13 anni, vuole fare il “gaucho”: si ribella quindi alla scuola e tiene testa ai genitori, il cui sogno d'indipendenza si trasforma in un incubo. La ragazzina si inoltrerà nella steppa per prestare aiuto al suo unico amico Nazareno, un vecchio Mapuche che ha perso il suo cavallo, Zahorí.
