Trama. Toscana, anni cinquanta. Fosco, un rude e carnale camionista rimasto vedovo della prima moglie e con un figlio a carico, si risposa con Anna, una taciturna, pudica ed affascinante siciliana molto più giovane di lui e che è già madre di una vivacissima bambina, Santina.
Nella caldissima estate del 1957, in Toscana, il camionista Fosco torna al paese con la ragazza madre Anna, trovata in Sicilia e scelta come seconda moglie dopo una vedovanza precoce. Tanto Fosco è sanguigno e viscerale, quanto Anna è timida.
