Okinawa has always held a special place in the heart of Japanese film and culture: its the dreamscape Takeshi Kitano retreats to in his films for metamorphosis. Each of Okinawa Rendez-vous' characters relocate to the magical island to change their own lives. And director Gordon Chan's yakuza gangsters have much in common with Kitano's beach bums.
