A young woman and her doctor husband are victims of a blackmail scheme when it is discovered that she was born in prison. Margaret, an adopted young girl about to marry a young physician, Robert Benson, learns that she was born in prison and that her real mother, a convict, has just died there.
Before Betty Gilbert leaves prison after serving an eighteen month sentence, Mary Winters, a dying inmate who has been like a mother to Betty, gives her newspaper clippings about her daughter, whose birth in prison resulted in the commutation of Mary's death sentence.
