Noroît (Une vengeance) is a 1976 experimental adventure fantasy drama directed by Jacques Rivette. The title is an alteration of nord-ouest (north-west), meaning the direction or the wind from that direction (in English, a "nor'wester"). The story is loosely based on Thomas Middleton's The Revenger's Tragedy.

Noroît est un film français réalisé par Jacques Rivette, sorti en 1976 . Synopsis. Sur une plage, Morag (Chaplin) pleure sur le corps sans vie de son frère Shane et fait vœu de venger sa mort. Shane a été tué par Giulia (Lafont), chef d'une bande de pirates qui habitent le château de l'île.

Noroît may be one of Rivette’s most confounding and ambitious films, part staccato Kabuki performance, part reflexive deconstruction of the dramatic form itself, and in the end, a sustained balancing act of multiple mysterious choices.
